Auditorium 2 (ed. Quelhas, ISEG)

International Conference

On November 27, the conference "Post-Sanctions Iran: Opportunities and Challenges" will take place at ISEG, at 09h30, in Auditorium 2 (Ed. Quelhas).

Iran is the second largest economy in the Middle East and North Africa with an estimated GDP of $406 billion in 2014. It also has the second largest population in the region at 78.5 million with a per capita income above USD 7000. Oil and gas production, agriculture and industry are the main national economic activities. In 2015, the nuclear control agreement signed with other world powers marked a turning point towards a "post-sanctions era", putting Iran back on the international geopolitical table.

The conference aims to discuss the political, economic, social and security challenges and opportunities, both domestically and at the foreign policy level, in a post-sanctions Iran. It will discuss the new Iranian economic and financial framework following the lifting of sanctions, current government policies to engage business actors and the impact of changing regional and global dynamics.

Speakers include Iran's Deputy Minister of Petroleum Dr. Amir Zamaninia, the Director of Policy Planning of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Dr. Kazem Sajjadpour, the Political Advisor of the Middle East and North Africa Program of the European Council on External Relations, Ellie Geranmayeh, and Research Associate / MacArthur Fellow at the Center for Science and Security Studies at King's College London, Dina Esfandiary.

Free admission, subject to registration.
