Reading Course | Capital, 150 Years Later

20 Oct / 21 Oct from 10:00 to 00:00
St. Lazarus Library

On October 20th and 21st, the reading course "Capital, 150 years later"organized by CULTRA - Cooperativa Culturas do Trabalho e Socialismo, with the participation of Professor Carlos Bastien (ISEG) and Professor Francisco Louçã (ISEG).

The course takes place at the S. Lázaro Library (Lisbon) and focuses on Karl Marx's "Capital".

Although its first volume was published in 1867, Marx had already been preparing "Capital" for at least two decades.

To decipher the mysteries of economic organization, Marx proposed an investigation into the roots of the problem - this was the key to radicalism, as he argued in a letter to Kugelmann in July of the same year. The work therefore began with an analysis of the commodity and its exchange, moving on to the study of value, labor and exploitation, relations between classes, the accumulation of capital and the system's crises.

As it is now 150 years since its publication, Cultra is organizing a reading course on the work that exposes the hidden contradictions of capitalism. This course will also discuss other fundamental works by Marx and Engels, going through the history of the concepts and method condensed in the three books of Capital.
