Fire in rural areas is a social challenge that needs knowledge and science to inform public policies and decisions in key sectors of the economy.

The problem of fire in the Portuguese countryside embodies characteristics of social relevance, complexity and transdisciplinarity.

The College of Food, Farming and Forestry (F3) of the University of Lisbon is promoting a "Knowledge Center for Fire in Rural Areas", responding to a challenge posed by the Association for the Competitiveness of the Forestry Industry (AIFF).

In this broad, nationwide network, knowledge integration is carried out in partnership with all universities and research centers where we know that essential knowledge resides so that the response to social concern produces the solutions that the country needs and expects.
