"Improving students' learning experiences and student retention
Whether students complete the university programme they enter or if they leave before completion is both related to the students' prior knowledge and experiences and to what they experience after having entered the university programmes. The workshop will focus on the importance of the students' first-year experience in relation to student completion. However, since some of the issues that are important as to whether students complete or not also affect the quality of students' learning in general the topic of the workshop is student success in a broader sense.
A particular emphasis will be put on the importance of the students' difficulties with decoding the expectations and requirements of the programmes and how they try to make sense and coherence of what they experience.
The workshop is based on results from a three-year longitudinal research project."
