ISEG professor Carlos Farinha Rodrigues (ISEG) published today the Final Report of the Project Economic Inequality in Portugal carried out by the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão for the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation.

This study aims to provide a detailed and rigorous analysis of how economic inequality has evolved in Portugal over the last 30 years.

The author outlined some of the study's conclusions - "We need to realize that social policies are not designed to reduce inequalities," but rather to reduce poverty and social exclusion, having a "relatively small effect in terms of inequalities."
The economist added that "there are a number of indicators that point to a possible worsening of inequality and poverty".

The study will be discussed on Thursday, October 18, at the Economic and Social Council (CES), and the presentation and launch ceremony of the study will be on October 22nd.
