The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) is 2nd in the Ibero-American ranking " Scimago Institutions Rankings Iber 2014″ (SIR Iber 2014), which analyzes the scientific production of higher education institutions between 2008 and 2012.

In 2013, the former UL and UTL were ranked 26th and 14th respectively. Following the merger of these institutions, ULisboa became the university with the highest number of scientific publications in Portugal.

According to the Rector of ULisboa, Professor António Cruz Serra, the result published by SIR Iber 2014 is "very positive and very satisfactory, which fills us with pride", and he hopes that the University will maintain this position over the coming years, as research will continue to be a priority.
