Four ISEG PhD students awarded PhD Research Grants by the Foundation for Science and Technology

The Doctoral Program in Development Studies (PDED) is to be congratulated!

Four doctoral students were awarded scholarships in the 2020 edition of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) Doctoral Research Scholarship Competition.

The four doctoral research projects considered to be of strategic interest to science in Portugal are as follows:
- Ana Luísa Silva, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Luís Mah (CESA/ISEG), will continue her ongoing research on the subject of innovation in international development cooperation.
- Gianluca Ferrittu, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Nuno Sobreira (CEMAPRE-ISEG) and Prof. Dr. Pedro Goulart (ISCSP), will investigate the prevalence and determinants of child labor in Europe.
- Mafalda Pereira, under the guidance of Professor Olivia Bina (ICS), will explore how "nature" is conceptualized in the context of so-called "nature-based cities", interventions that seek to renaturalize urban spaces.
- Antonio Gori, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Marco Allegra (ICS), proposes to develop a comparative case study on the problem of the housing crisis and its relationship with social movements in the cities of Lisbon, Barcelona and Rome.

The PDED was created in 2009 and certified by the National Agency A3ES in 2015. Since 2017/18, it has been an inter-university program that brings together ISEG (Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão), ICS (Instituto de Ciências Sociais), IGOT (Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território) and ISA (Instituto Superior de Agronomia) of the University of Lisbon. Within ISEG, most of the PDED doctoral students have been conducting their research at the Center for African and Development Studies (CEsA) over the years.
