FLAD - Luso-American Development Foundation has opened the application period for the UP Higher Education 2025 Program up until the 15th September, 2024.
This programme provides a line of funding of up to 30,000 euros per project for higher education institutions that present projects to be developed in partnership with universities in the United States, with the objective to promote the development and internationalisation of Portuguese higher education.
In 2025, following the path of support for the promotion of the internationalisation of Portuguese higher education institutions that it has been developing with a wide range of activities, FLAD will once again run the UP Higher Education Program, with a maximum funding line of 100,000 euros, to support Portuguese higher education institutions develop their projects for the internationalisation of their own universities, learning best practices, and curricular cooperation, among others.
The selected projects may receive up to 30,000 euros in funding for projects that include, for example, a combination of, or individual projects:
- Cooperation and/or curricular articulation (e.g., development of double or joint degrees; financial support for the development of new consortia between Portugal and the USA; etc);
- The adoption and use of technology (e.g., Collaborative Online International Learning - COIL, virtual mobility, etc);
- The training and development of members of faculty and staff (e.g., short-term trips for immersion training);
- Joint research (e.g., joint projects, multilateral networks);
- Talent acquisition (e.g., joint employment/joint appointments);
Proposals may be related with any study cycle (Bachelors, Masters, PhD, Executive Training, etc., either in isolation or in conjunction, and in any area of knowledge.
Universities, polytechnics, faculties, research centres, or schools may submit applications involving two or more universities (consortia) on both sides of the Atlantic.
*Proposals from HEIs located in the interior of the country or in the islands will receive an increment in their evaluation..
Calendar
- Application period - from the 15th May to the 15th September, 2024;
- Candidates will be notified by the 21st October 2024.
The winning proposals will receive support at a time to be determined.
Support will be made available during 2024 for initiatives starting during the 2024/25 Academic Year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications must be from Portuguese HEIs;
- Applications can be submitted in either English or Portuguese;
- Each application submitted, either individually or as a consortium, must be associated with a Principal Investigator/Project Director representing the HEI(s) involved in Portugal, and the indication of a reference point of contact at the HEI(s) involved in the USA;
- In its budget, the application must clearly demonstrate the financial involvement of the parties. It is obligatory that the contribution of the partner HEI in the USA is equal to that of the Portuguese HEI.
