ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics and Management is one of the founding institutions of the new Institute for Sustainability, a consortium that brings together universities, companies and public entities around a common goal: to develop scientific and technological solutions to promote environmental, economic and social sustainability.
The formalization of the partnership took place on 9 Aprilby signing a memorandum of understanding among the founding partners: the Instituto Superior Técnico, the Higher Institute of Agronomy (ISA), on Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), on Oeiras City Council, on Tratolixo - inter-municipal company responsible for the treatment of solid urban waste - and the ISEG.
This new Institute is born with the mission of being a center of excellence in the development of services, training and research applied to sustainability, promoting integrated solutions to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future.
According toWinnie PicotoISEG's vice-president for sustainability, "the creation of this Institute strengthens the role of higher education institutions in finding interdisciplinary solutions to the complex problems and challenges of the future. Our participation will bring an essential economic and management perspective to ensure that sustainability is achieved with viability, equity and lasting impact'.
The Centre signed memorandum establishes the general principles of cooperation between the entities involved, providing for the development of joint projects, innovation initiatives and technical and scientific training programs. The next few months will mark the implementation of the Institutewith the definition of its governance structure and the planning of its first activities.
ISEG's participation guarantees the contribution of the economic and management sciences to the construction of sustainable solutions that combine economic viability, social responsibility and respect for environmental limits - fundamental pillars for truly sustainable development.
