From 25-27 May, ISEG Lisbon School of Economics & Management hosted the Public Value Fest 2025, a pioneering event in Europe dedicated to the creation of public value in communities. Organised in partnership with Estrela Parish Council, the festival brought together experts, policymakers, academics and citizens around a common goal: to rethink cities and develop solutions that are more sustainable, inclusive and resilient.
One of the highlights of the event was the bestowing of the Public Value Award on the urban planner Carlos Moreno, creator of the renowned "15-minute city", which has inspired public policies in several cities around the world.
ISEG organised a round table on "Reimagining the Urban Economy", promoting a dialogue between representatives of academia, public administration and the social economy sector. The debate was moderated by Gabriel Londe Medeiros, a visiting professor at ISEG, and included Patricia Melo (associate professor at ISEG and specialist in urban economics), Ana Margarida Figueiredo (General Director for Economy and Innovation at Lisbon City Council) and Gustavo Freitas (Head of Innovation at Casa do Impacto).
This initiative underscores ISEG's commitment to putting the economy at the service of society, actively contributing to the construction of urban policies centred on the common good and the socio-ecological challenges of our time.
A permanent exhibition on the evolution of ISEG opens its doors on 18 June, revealing the School's role in the development of economics and management education in Portugal.
On 18 June, at 18.00, ISEG Lisbon School of Economics & Management, of Universidade de Lisboa, will inaugurate an unprecedented museum project that will set out the principal milestones in the School's history, from its beginnings to the present day.
Housed in the emblematic Quelhas Convent in the centre of Lisbon, the exhibition spans centuries of history, from the 16th century, when the building was home to foreign refugee nuns, to the modern era, when ISEG has established itself as one of the most prestigious economics and management schools at both national and international levels.
This permanent exhibition accompanies the evolution of ISEG, evolving from the Aula do Comércio, the oldest public school of economics and management in Europe, and shows how the School has witnessed and led political, social and educational transformations for more than 100 years.
"This museum space is a living tribute to the legacy of ISEG and the generations that built it", says João Duque, Dean of ISEG. "By giving voice to the very walls of our School, we want not only to preserve the institutional memory, but also to inspire future generations who study, educate and research here. ISEG is a school with a remarkable past, active in the present and focused on the future."
The exhibition includes historical pieces, emblematic documents, images from each era and multimedia resources that help put the different periods through which the School passed into context.
More than a chronology of facts, the project engages in a lively, sensory and engaging narrative that seeks to bring the academic community and the general public closer to ISEG's rich heritage and symbolism.
The inauguration will be attended by various personalities from Universidade de Lisboa, former and current professors and students, as well as institutional partners and representatives of the surrounding community.

ISEG, through the professor of Strategy and Marketing Márcia Maurer Herter, was recently elected Portugal's National Representative at EMAC - European Marketing Academy.
Founded in 1975, EMAC is one of the most prestigious European academic organisations in the field of Marketing, promoting global academic exchange, career development and collaboration between researchers, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The election was attended by Portuguese EMAC members and included candidates from other leading universities, including NOVA SBE and Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
This appointment follows ISEG's successful organisation of the EMAC conference in September 2024, which brought together academics from more than twenty countries, reinforcing the School's prestige in the area of Strategy and Marketing. Professor Márcia Herter has outlined an action plan focused on integrating Portuguese researchers into EMAC's activities, including webinars with national authors from top publications (such as those listed in the Financial Times and ABS4), and the EMAC Paper Development Workshop. This is aimed at supporting young researchers and PhD students with feedback from senior academics.
The professor also proposes fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity, guaranteeing representation and welcoming researchers at all stages of their careers, with the aim of strengthening the national academic community and the international projection of marketing research in Portugal.
