
The Rector of the University of Lisbon, António Cruz Serra, invites the academic community to the launch of the first issue of the University of Lisbon Magazine which will take place on
December 7, at 10:30 am, in the Kaleidoscope auditorium.
Addressed to all students, professors, researchers and technical and administrative staff, as well as to former students of the University, the ULisboa Journal is an instrument of dissemination of the University's activities, of the people who constitute it and of the breadth and detail of its material and immaterial heritage. It aims to promote the University's cohesion and spirit of body and relies on the participation of all its Schools.

The 2016 Shanghai Ranking, officially known as the "Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)" that annually presents the top 500 universities worldwide, places ULisboa, to which ISEG belongs, in the 160th position worldwide, 53rd in the European Union and 62nd in the EUROPE region.
In the Iberian Peninsula it is 1st ahead of the University of Barcelona, occupying the 2nd position in the Iberian-Latin American chart, now closer to the University of São Paulo.
Fernando Martins, PhD from ISEG and member of the
UECE - Research Unit on Complexity and Economics, won the Simões Lopes Prize 2016, with his thesis doctorate
"Price and wage rigidities: microeconomic evidence".
Fernando Martins' thesis was considered the best PhD thesis in the field of Economic and Business Sciences, approved in public exams held at Portuguese Universities (ex aequo).




Nuno Crato, full professor of Mathematics and Statistics at ISEG and researcher in stochastic models, time series and applications, with a long list of articles published in international journals and several awards for his work in scientific dissemination, has been elected to the new board of directors of the
International Institute of Forecasters (IIF).
The results of the elections, which took place in April, were announced this weekend. It is the first time that a Portuguese academic has been elected to this position of scientific director.
The IIF is a scientific society that publishes a leading journal in the field, the
International Journal of ForecastingThe International Symposium on Forecasting, which organizes the International Symposium on Forecasting every year, has various scientific activities of special interest to statisticians, economists, econometricians, management specialists, operational researchers and the like. Its members include researchers in econometrics and statistics, but also economists and managers, applied mathematicians and scientists from other fields.
The next IIF International Symposium will be held from June 20 to 22 this year in Santander. Next year it will be held in Cairn, Australia. In 2000, this congress was held in Lisbon, with organization supported by the Portuguese Statistical Society and the Cemapre center - ISEG's Centre for Mathematics Applied to Forecasting and Economic Decision Making.

Applications are open until May 15th the Universidade de Lisboa/Santander Universidades Scientific Awards to encourage the publication of scientific articles.
These Awards, instituted by ULisboa in collaboration with Banco Santander Totta, aim to reward scientific research activity and encourage the practice of publishing in international journals of recognized quality.
In total, six Prizes and up to twenty Honorable Mentions will be awarded in the following areas:

You will also be able to attend a concert by the ULisboa Orchestra and various dance, theater, music and tunas performances, thus discovering the rhythm that characterizes academic life.

From January 2016, the University of Lisbon (ULisboa) will be offering a space to support the development of research and innovation activities, in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (3Is) building, at the same time as creating a set of services to support the activities of researchers and entrepreneurs.
Expressions of willingness to use the space must be sent to the Rector by December 6, accompanied by a description of the actions to be carried out, detailing their relevance to the University and society, the timetable for their activities, and other information deemed pertinent.
This initiative has the strategic objective of creating conditions conducive to the transfer of knowledge to society through the development of entrepreneurship, namely by stimulating and supporting the creation of companies, such as start-ups and spin-offs, based on the knowledge generated at the University.

City on the Move" (140) are being voted on until November 15 in the Lisbon City Council's (CML) Participatory Budget (PB) 2015.
The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) is committed to publicizing and supporting projects 100 and 140 with the aim of improving conditions for those who study, work and visit Tapada da Ajuda, as well as for sports at the Lisbon University Stadium.
The
Project 100 "Discovering Tapada da Ajuda" go:
- Create: seating area and garden area at Pateira
- Rehabilitation: water line, viewpoint, forest areas and sidewalks
- Improving: signage, equipment and fencing
The
Project 140 "EULisboa, City on the Move" go:
- Create: streets and public corridors
- Lighting: public corridors and outdoor maintenance circuits
- Renovate: outdoor maintenance circuits
- Rehabilitation: sand field for beach sports
