Cycle of Cinema and Decolonisation | Screening of the film Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês

07 Jun 2025 from 10:00 to 13:00
ISEG, Auditorium 2 (Quelhas)

The CEsA - Centre for African and Development Studies/ISEG Research, is organising a screening of the film Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês(Ery Claver, 2022, Angola, 98 min), a 7 June, from 10.00 to 13.00, at the ISEG's Auditorium 2 (Quelhas, 2nd Floor).

Can a plastic Madonna influence her surroundings? This movie shows that it is possible, at least in Luanda. Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês summarizes the chain of events that the figure's arrival in a Chinese store triggers, following characters such as Domingas, a mother struggling with grief; Bessa, a barber who creates a cult around the figure; and Zoyo, a child seeking revenge.

The screening closes the 2024/2025 season of the Cinema and Decolonisation Cycle, and will include a debate after the screening, with Ery Claver and Lara Sousa, Mozambican filmmaker, who will participate online.

Free admission, subject to room capacity.
