Saúl Picado holds the Gilbert & Eileen Edgar Junior Fellowship in Accompanying at the Royal College of Music in London, working mainly with the strings class at this institution.
 
He began his piano training in the class of Professor João Paulo Cunha at the Castelo Branco Regional Conservatory and was twice awarded First Prize in the "Lopes Graça" Internal Competitions. He won third prize in the International Competition of the City of Fundão, and was also awarded the prize for best performer in Beira Baixa in his category in 2005. After finishing his studies at the Conservatoire, he joined the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in 2006, in the piano class of Professor Alexei Eremine. In addition to solo piano, his training at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra also covered the areas of accompaniment and chamber music, and in 2010 he graduated with top marks in all three areas. In 2012, he obtained his Master's Degree in Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, in the piano classes of professors Martin Roscoe and Peter Bithell. During his Masters, Saul was awarded grants from Steinway & Sons, Steel Charitable Trust and HWE & WL Tovery. In the 2012/2013 school year, he was a student in the piano class of Professor Pedro Brumester. During the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 school years, he was awarded a scholarship by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, taking private lessons with Professor Peter Bithell. In 2007 he played at the Castelo Branco International Festival "Primavera Musical". In October of the same year, he played Beethoven's Triple Concerto solo with the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana. Highlights include the inaugural recital of the "Explanation of Absence" cycle at the Castelo Branco Cineteatro in November 2012 and the inaugural recital of the "EDP Piano Cycle 2013" at the Casa da Música's Suggia Hall in January 2013. In the same year he also played at the Cine Teatro Eduardo Brazão in Valadares (Gaia) and at the Romantic Museum in Porto.
 
In September 2011, he was awarded 2nd prize in the Young Musicians Prize competition in the soloist - higher level category and 1st prize in the chamber music category with his duo, Dryads Duo. In November of the same year, he was awarded the title of "Highly Commended" in the Guildhall School of Music & Drama's internal "Beethoven Piano Prize" competition. In September 2012, the Dryads Duo launched and presented their first CD with works by Janáček, Ravel and Enescu at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in a recital as part of the Young Musicians Festival 2012, a CD offered by the GDA Foundation (Gestão dos Direitos dos Artistas) in partnership with the Young Musicians Prize 2011.
