Guided tour of the “Deconstructing Colonialism, Decolonising the Imaginary" exhibition

14 Dec 2025 from 11:30 to 12:30
National Anthropology Museum

The ISEG Research Group on Development and Sustainable Transitions together with the National Anthropology Museum are holding a critical reflection on the myths of Portuguese colonialism in Africa through the “Deconstructing Colonialism, Decolonizing the Imaginary”. Portuguese Colonialism in Africa: Myths and Realities” exhibition, on display until 29 March 2026, at the National Anthropology Museum.

Conceived and coordinated by Isabel Castro Henriques to mark the 50th anniversary of "25 de Abril", the exhibition combines historical research and African art to renew knowledge about the colonial past. The exhibition is organised around two axes: the historical narrative, built on the work of around 30 researchers, and extensive iconographic documentation; the voice of African cultures, expressed in 139 works from the collections of the National Museum of Ethnology, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and private collectors.

On 14 December 2025, at 11.30, there will be a guided tour of the exhibition carried out by researcher Inocência Mata (Universidade de Lisboa).

Free entry, subject to pre-registration by sending an email to: se.mnetnologia@museusemonumentos.pt.
