Tomorrow, February 5th, from 18:30, the Cultural Room at El Corte Inglés in Lisbon will be the stage for the presentation of the latest essay by Professor Nuno Crato, Aprender, published by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation.
Synopsis
Learning, why and for what? For decades, we have been discussing what we expect from our education system and whether it is possible to improve it. This essay returns to the subject, but from the scientific developments that can help education, in the field of cognitive sciences, statistical studies, the economics of education and international comparative analyses.
These pages defend an ambitious curriculum, focused on knowledge and not on vague skills. The need for valid, frequent and rigorous assessment is explained, and support is advocated for students who show the greatest difficulties. Teachers and learning are praised. Because the love of knowledge still lives among us, it is possible to move towards teaching informed by experience, data and science.

The presentation is part of the program of the "Ciclo Praça da Fundação" conference "Teaching: is it important to know, structure and evaluate?", which debate will be moderated by Filipa Melo and will feature, in addition to the former ISEG professor, Isabel Soares, Principal of "Colégio Moderno",as well as José Miguel Júdice, lawyer and television commentator.
Nuno Crato's latest work is now available in the most popular bookstores.
Registration for the book's presentation conference is now closed.
