Bernardo Santareno

In 1957 and 1958, Bernardo Santareno embarked as a ship's doctor on the Portuguese cod fleet that sailed every year to Newfoundland and Greenland. In notebooks, he sketched small pictures with stories, portraits, descriptions, landscapes, tragedies. One of the most admirable documents of a reality that was ours at the same time as an astonishing literary work. These paintings are the origin of "O Lugre", the play that was staged at the National Theatre by Amélia Rey Colaço. Here Jorge Silva Melo signs an adaptation for radio.
