ISEG joins new sustainability institute

The formalization of the partnership took place on 9 Aprilby signing a memorandum of understanding among the founding partners: the Instituto Superior Técnico, the Higher Institute of Agronomy (ISA), on Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), on Oeiras City Council, on Tratolixo - inter-municipal company responsible for the treatment of solid urban waste - and the ISEG.

This new Institute is born with the mission of being a center of excellence in the development of services, training and research applied to sustainability, promoting integrated solutions to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future.

According toWinnie PicotoISEG's vice-president for sustainability, "the creation of this Institute strengthens the role of higher education institutions in finding interdisciplinary solutions to the complex problems and challenges of the future. Our participation will bring an essential economic and management perspective to ensure that sustainability is achieved with viability, equity and lasting impact'.

The signed memorandum establishes the general principles of cooperation between the entities involved, providing for the development of joint projects, innovation initiatives and technical and scientific training programs. The next few months will mark the implementation of the Institutewith the definition of its governance structure and the planning of its first activities.

ISEG's participation guarantees the contribution of the economic and management sciences to the construction of sustainable solutions that combine economic viability, social responsibility and respect for environmental limits - fundamental pillars for truly sustainable development.

ISEG once again features in the Financial Times Executive Education Rankings

ISEG stood out particularly in the areas of international clients, growth of programmes, partnerships with other international schools and diversity of its faculty, strategic elements that reflect the School's ongoing commitment to innovation and internationalisation.

Portugal continues to feature in one of the world's most prestigious rankings, with five schools showing the quality of their Executive Training, which attracts students from various countries.

It's worth noting that Lisbon and Paris are the only European cities with four schools represented in the Financial Times Executive Education rankings -- a feat that neither London, nor Madrid nor Milan have managed to achieve. This recognition reinforces Lisbon's position as a hub of European excellence in advanced management training

Given these results, Joana Santos Silva, CEO of ISEG Executive Education , says: "It is with a sense of pride and commitment that we note that the Financial Times Executive Education 2025 ranking once again places ISEG Executive Education among the global elite in executive education. We continue to be considered one of the best business schools in the world -- a truly exclusive group where only a minority has a place. This presence reinforces the solidity of our project, the quality of our faculty, the impact of our programmes and the growing confidence of those who choose us to transform their career path.

The strengthening of international partnerships is a fundamental pillar in the consolidation of Portugal as a hub of excellence in advanced management training, and projects the country as a credible and attractive destination for developing talent and leadership on a global scale. In an increasingly competitive environment, we don't underestimate the work ahead of us, but we can't help but celebrate the path that has brought us this far", she concludes.

This is a distinction that comes after a particularly remarkable year, in which ISEG achieved Triple Crown Accreditation, an international distinction held by only 1% of Business Schools, and recently received the FCT's 'Excellent' evaluation for the quality of our scientific research. It should also be remembered that the ISEG MBA was recognised as Tier 1 in CEO Magazine's global ranking and ISEG was highlighted as a Portuguese Top School in the prestigious SCImago ranking.

João Duque, Dean of ISEG, comments: "At ISEG, we don't work for rankings, but this recognition from the Financial Times is an incentive for us to continue working with ambition, consistency and passion, always at the service of our mission to develop conscientious leaders, prepared to create value in organisations and society. We are also very pleased that five Portuguese schools are part of this ranking, as it attests to the quality of the Executive Education offer that Portugal has to offer, and reinforces our country's ability to attract - and eventually retain - the leaders of the future."

The CWUR ranking of Financial Times evaluates the performance of business schools worldwide, taking into account teaching methodologies, faculty qualifications, the contribution to new skills and learning, and the return on investment for participants.

ISEG inaugurates 'Memory Space' that gives voice to its centenary of history

A permanent exhibition on the evolution of ISEG opens its doors on 18 June, revealing the School's role in the development of economics and management education in Portugal.

On 18 June, at 18.00, ISEG Lisbon School of Economics & Management, of Universidade de Lisboa, will inaugurate an unprecedented museum project that will set out the principal milestones in the School's history, from its beginnings to the present day.

Housed in the emblematic Quelhas Convent in the centre of Lisbon, the exhibition spans centuries of history, from the 16th century, when the building was home to foreign refugee nuns, to the modern era, when ISEG has established itself as one of the most prestigious economics and management schools at both national and international levels.

This permanent exhibition accompanies the evolution of ISEG, evolving from the Aula do Comércio, the oldest public school of economics and management in Europe, and shows how the School has witnessed and led political, social and educational transformations for more than 100 years.

"This museum space is a living tribute to the legacy of ISEG and the generations that built it", says João Duque, Dean of ISEG. "By giving voice to the very walls of our School, we want not only to preserve the institutional memory, but also to inspire future generations who study, educate and research here. ISEG is a school with a remarkable past, active in the present and focused on the future."

The exhibition includes historical pieces, emblematic documents, images from each era and multimedia resources that help put the different periods through which the School passed into context.

More than a chronology of facts, the project engages in a lively, sensory and engaging narrative that seeks to bring the academic community and the general public closer to ISEG's rich heritage and symbolism.

The inauguration will be attended by various personalities from Universidade de Lisboa, former and current professors and students, as well as institutional partners and representatives of the surrounding community.
