On November 23rd, the 3rd session of the Books of Our Time Debate Cyclededicated to the work The Gun, the Ship and the Pen (2021), by Linda Colley. The work will be commented by professor Nuno Valério (ISEG) and moderated by professor Amélia Branco (ISEG).

The Cycle of Books of Our Time is organized annually by CSG-Consortium for Research in Social Sciences and Management of ISEGin collaboration with the Francisco Pereira de Moura Library (ISEG), with the objective of approaching important books in the scientific areas of the school, namely Management, Economy and Society. In each session a Professor from ISEG and/or external guests will comment on the new ideas suggested by the book-theme, followed by a debate.

On November 16, ISEG will host a panel of guests from the insurance sector for "Conversations on Sustainability - The Climate Transition in the Insurance Sector". The session will take place in Auditorium 4 of the Quelhas Building, starting at 18h00.
Climate change has a significant impact on people and businesses. Losses due to natural disasters have increased by 360% in the last 30 years. On the other hand, customer behavior has also evolved, implying a change in their risk profiles and needs for new products and services. Insurers need to offer personalized solutions tailored to individual needs, for both individuals and companies.

The great technological innovations of recent decades (the so-called Digital Revolution), with the increasing use of automation and Artificial Intelligence, have not only already created new forms of organization and provision of work, but have also had an increasing impact on its more traditional forms of organization and provision. Faced with these transformations and the speed at which they have been occurring, Labor Law is today at a crossroads: to passively and uncritically accept its progressive rarefaction, and even its own disappearance, or to actively promote its development and reinforcement, always in defense of the Dignity of Work and the Citizenship of those who live from it.

About the Photography Exhibition "From Lisbon to the Tropics"
The photography exhibition "From Lisbon to the Tropics" marks the 2nd anniversary of the Tropical College and will be on display at ISEG until December 31, 2022.
This exhibition portrays the experiences of researchers from the University of Lisbon in various tropical countries. It comes to life in the experiences of researchers who have crossed continents in search of knowledge.
The concept and curatorship are Rúben Oliveira (coordinator of CTROP's Communication group, cE3c - Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon) and Teresa Vaz (manager of CTROP's international partnerships).
About the SustInAfrica project
The main objective of this project is to design, implement, test and validate agroecological practices using new technologies to increase the primary productivity and resilience of agricultural systems in North and West Africa.
On 26th OctoberISEG hosts the Institute of Public Policy and SEDES for a debate on "State Budget 2023: rigor, transparency and innovation?". This session is part of the SEDES/IPP Cycle of Debates - Portugal: Small steps for big changes.
The debate starts at 17h30, in Auditorium 2 (Quelhas Building, 2nd floor).
At this event, the government will present the innovations of the State Budget 2023, particularly from the point of view of transparency, green budgeting and budget programs. This will be followed by a debate on opportunities for improvement, from the point of view of the institutions that usually monitor the budgetary process: the Court of Auditors, which issues an opinion on the General State Account; the Public Finance Council, which issues an opinion on the macroeconomic scenario; UTAO, which issues two reports on the entire State Budget; and the Institute of Public Policy, which, through the Budget Watch project, has assessed and made recommendations for improving the transparency and accuracy of the State Budget.
The cycle "Small Steps for Big Changes", promoted by IPP and SEDES, aims to identify proposals that make a difference. In this case, improving the clarity and transparency, for all citizens and economic agents, of the SB bill presented by the executive.
