By 2030, 47,000 teachers will have left the schools due to retirement. The demographic decline is taking pupils out of the classroom, but despite this, 34,500 new teachers will be needed over the next decade.
What public policy solutions can meet the needs of schools and students in terms of teaching staff? Should schools have a say in choosing their teachers? Could the recruitment base for teachers be widened even further to include professionals from areas unrelated to teaching?
