The FCT call for PhD research grants is open until March 31, 2020 (17:00 Lisbon time). 1,350 grants will be awarded.

About the competition
Applications are submitted electronically using the form available at myFCT portal.
Each candidate may submit only one application.
Applications are scored on three evaluation criteria:
i) merit of the candidate (40%); the merit of candidates is assessed on the basis of three sub-criteria: academic record, weighted 50%; personal curriculum, weighted 40%; motivation letter, weighted 10% of the candidate's merit;
ii) merit of the work program (40%);
iii) merit of the reception conditions (20%).
Advisors must be associated with their students' applications during the competition period.
Applicants are required to submit a letter of motivation and two letters of recommendation.
TENDER DOCUMENTS:
Candidates must upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV) to the CIÊNCIAVITAE platform, duly updated (in this edition of the competition, CVs from the FCT-SIG or DeGóis platforms can no longer be used).
To apply the scores provided for in Table 1 of the Notice of Opening (p. 7) it is necessary to submit, when applying, academic degree certificates specifying the final classification obtained and, if they are foreign degrees, the conversion of classifications to the Portuguese scale.
When both the bachelor's and master's degree certificates obtained abroad are not recognized or the respective final grades have not been converted to the Portuguese grading scale, subcriterion A1 will be given a score of zero (A1 = 0).
To apply the scores provided for in Table 1 of the Notice of Opening the following documents must be submitted as part of the application:
a) Certificate of academic qualifications, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the marks obtained in all subjects taken. In the case of "post-Bologna" courses, you must present your 1st and 2nd cycle certificates or, if it is not a two-year course, your integrated master's certificate. For "pre-Bologna" courses, you must present your bachelor's and master's degree certificates.
b) In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment for candidates who hold foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognize these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese classification scale.
The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas, as well as the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale, can be requested at any public higher education institution, or at the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES, only in the case of automatic recognition).

On March 5th, a open class on Precision Agricultureat 6pm in room 103 (Ed. Francesinhas 2).
The speaker will be António Coimbra, managing director of Agro Analítica, an agricultural consultancy company whose aim is to optimize agricultural operations.
The rapid growth and adoption of Precision Farming technologies by farmers has led to the accumulation of a vast array of raw data that is highly complex and does not in itself add any value to agricultural activity or decision-making.
In this session on precision agriculture, António Coimbra will share examples of excellence and the most advanced projects in this area.
It is organized within the framework of the Spatial Econometrics curricular unit of the Master of Applied Econometrics and ForecastingIn this open session, we will be able to learn about another case of real applications where the skills and abilities acquired at ISEG can make a difference!

The January 30, 2020 opens the new Call for IC&DT Projects in all Scientific Domains funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
As part of the opening of this competition, ISEG is organizing an information session on February 7, at 3pm (Auditorium 2, Ed. Quelhas, 2nd floor). Admission is free.

Paulo Soeiro de Carvalho is the new Executive Director of the ISEG MBA, which will have Jorge Marrão (Partner at Deloitte) as President of the Strategic Council.
Paulo Soeiro de Carvalho, associate professor with a PhD in Lyon, brings with him a vast professional experience in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation, and strategy, which includes projects in companies such as Bosch, Brisa, Celfocus, EDP, Fiat, GALP, and SONAE, in addition to the Economy and Innovation Department of the Lisbon City Hall and the vice-presidency of LISPOLIS.
Accredited by the AMBA, the ISEG's MBA is the oldest in the country and the only one at the University of Lisbon, having graduated more than a thousand professionals since its creation.

On December 12thwe will have at ISEG a Conversation Fishbowl on "What is Responsible and Conscious Human Leadership?".

On December 12th, the ISEG is holding the Launch of the Child Poverty Project: Knowing to Interveneat 16h00 (Esplanade, New Quelhas Building).
Professor Amélia Bastos (ISEG) is the project coordinator and a member of the scientific committee. This project aims to "To understand child poverty based on up-to-date and systematized information on the living conditions of children in Portugal, in order to guarantee appropriate interventions for the dynamics and problems detected."

On 3rd December, ISEG hosts a meeting of PhD students and researchers, entitled "Publishing in the top five tourism journals: the experience as editor and author".
The meeting is presented by Professor Xavier Font (University of Surrey), moderated by Ana Rita Sampaio, researcher at the University of Surrey. SOCIUS - Research Centre for Economic and Organizational Sociology .
The session, organized by SOCIUS, starts at 16.30, in the Staples room (Ed. Quelhas, 3rd floor).
