lecture, entitled "
Where is the European Union on the map?", is organized within the framework of the Master's Degrees in
Economia Internacional e Estudos Europeus , delivered in
Desenvolvimento e Cooperação Internacional .

About Ambassador Francisco Seixas da Costa
Ambassador Francisco Seixas da Costa is a diplomat who has marked Portugal's international relations in recent decades, with particular emphasis on the process of European integration and the major transformations that have taken place in the meantime.
He graduated from our University, from ISCSP - Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Políticas, was Secretary of State for European Affairs between 1995 and 2001 and, in that capacity,
was the main Portuguese negotiator of the
Treaty of Amsterdam
(1995-1997) and the
Treaty of Nice
(2000),
having chaired the Committee of Ministers of the
Schengen Agreement
(1997) and to the Council of Ministers of the
Internal Market
from
European Union
(2000).
He was Ambassador Permanent Representative to the
United Nations
in New York (2001-2002), where he served as Vice-Chairman of the Economic and Social Council - ECOSOC (2001), Chairman of the Committee on Economy and Finance of the 56th General Assembly (2001/2002), Vice-Chairman of the 57th General Assembly (2002), and, at the invitation of the Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, served on the Board of the Economic and Social Council - ECOSOC (2001), and on the Board of the Economic and Social Council - ECOSOC (2001).

In 2002, he was appointed Ambassador Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Between 2005 and 2009, he was Ambassador of Portugal to Brazil and, between 2009 and 2013, he was Ambassador to France and, from 2010, he was appointed cumulatively as non-resident Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
