The next ISEG Research Seminar will take place on the 16th October, with the participation of Paulo Barbosa, who will present a paper entitled 'Export Promotion with Matchmaking and Grants: Evidence from Portuguese Firms'.

Abstract:
This paper estimates the impact on firms' foreign sales of goods of two key policies implemented by export promotion agencies (EPAs): matchmaking in international markets and financial grants for internationalization. We integrate Portuguese detailed firm-level data on exports of goods, balance sheets, and income statements, as well as information on the activity of the EPA between 2012 and 2021. The empirical exercise estimates the causal effect of these policies using a staggered difference-in-difference estimator. We conclude that the support provided to Portuguese firms with the aim of increasing exports significantly and positively affected their exports of goods. More specifically, financial grants for internationalization led to a significant increase in firms' total exports, with a greater effect on micro and small firms and in the sectors of "Wholesale of household goods" and "Manufacture of wearing apparel". Similarly, matchmaking activities led to a significant increase in exports. In France, the country for which Portuguese companies request the most matching support, the effect is greater for micro and small firms and in the sector of "manufacturing of other textiles".

The exhibition "Deconstructing Colonialism, Decolonizing the Imaginary", open to the public from October 30, 2024 to November 2, 2025, at the National Museum of Ethnology in Lisbon, aims to present the lines of force of Portuguese colonialism in Africa in the 19th and 20th centuries, deconstruct myths, decolonize imaginaries and contribute, in a pedagogical and accessible way, to a renewal of knowledge about the Portuguese colonial question.
After the opening, the exhibition can be visited on Tuesdays from 14:00 to 18:00 and from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
Conceived and coordinated by Isabel Castro Henriques, as part of the 25 de Abril 50th anniversary celebrations, the exhibition, which also features a selection of African objects of art from the National Anthropology Museum, was created within the context of a partnership between the Museum and CEsA (CSG/ISEG-ULisboa).
This exhibition represents the project which is the culmination of the lines of research developed by a multidisciplinary team that brings together academics from different universities and research canters, which is being held as part of the 25 de Abril 50th anniversary celebrations.
A new Gira station, located in the Jardim das Francesinhas, was inaugurated yesterday and is now available for all the academic community. This initiative reinforces our School's commitment to sustainability and the promotion of practices that contribute to a greener future.
With the new Gira station, ISEG students, faculty and non-faculty staff can enjoy a practical and sustainable means of transport. Users with the navigator pass can take advantage of the Gira circuit free of charge, thus participating in an ecological and efficient alternative form of travel within the city.
We invite everyone to explore this new transport option, which is aligned with our values and goals of creating a more sustainable environment. Cycling is a way of looking after the planet and ourselves. Let's make a difference together!
