Debate | Educar 2040: what stays, what changes, what matters

On February 12th, at 17.30, The event “Educate 2040: what stays, what changes, what matters“, an initiative organized by ISEG, in partnership with Externato O Lar da Criança, This year's event is dedicated to reflecting on the future of education in a context of accelerated technological and social transformation.

The session will be attended by President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, This meeting, whose participation as Head of State gives it special institutional relevance, proposes an in-depth debate on the meaning of teaching and learning at a time when knowledge is unlimited but attention is increasingly scarce, and when artificial intelligence is challenging traditional teaching models.

The opening address will be given by João Duque, President of ISEG, and Rita Ávila de Melo, Director of Externato O Lar da Criança, followed by a speech by President of the Republic which underlines the centrality of education as a structuring pillar of democracy and the country's development, reinforcing ISEG's role - in dialogue with civil society - as a space for critical thinking and public debate on the great challenges of the future.

The central panel, under the theme “Between gesture and algorithm”, will bring together Arlindo Oliveira, Professor Emeritus at IST and specialist in Artificial Intelligence, Gustavo Jesus, psychiatrist and clinical director of PIN Lisboa, Maria Corrêa, clinical psychologist, and Marta Pinto, researcher and consultant in Artificial Intelligence, with moderation by journalist Catarina Marques (SIC).

The session will discuss topics such as the new foundations of education, the role of emotion and error in learning, the impact of artificial intelligence on the teacher-student relationship, the balance between digital and analog, and the school as a space for citizenship.

The session will be held in Portuguese.

Presentation of the study “Portugal's External Debt”

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the CCP - Confederation of Commerce and Services of Portugal is holding a conference on “Portugal and the Challenges for the Decade”, which will be held on 23 January, at 17.00, in ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management (CGD Auditorium, Quelhas).

The conference will be opened by the Dean of ISEG, Professor João Duque, and the Chair of the Board of the CCP, João Vieira Lopes.

During the conference, there will be the presentation of the study “Portugal's External Debt: diagnosis and contribution to a structuring public policy”, by Ricardo Cabral, professor at ISEG, and João Alcobia and Carolina Saraiva, ISEG alumni. The conference will also include the participation of António Mendonça, professor at ISEG and Chair of the Order of Economists.

It will be followed by a panel discussion with the participation of three former Ministers for the Economy, Augusto Mateus, António Costa Silva and Pedro Reis, reflecting on the major economic challenges facing Portugal over the next decade.

Forbes Greatest Leaders in Growth

On 29 January, ISEG hosts the event Forbes Greatest Leaders in Growth, an initiative of Forbes Portugal and Iberinform, which distinguishes the companies in Portugal that stand out most for their growth and innovation. The meeting will bring together key players from the business community to discuss major challenges and opportunities facing Portuguese companies.

During the event, there will be the presentation of the Forbes Greatest Leaders in Growth Awards, which recognise companies with outstanding performance.

The event will take place in ISEG's CGD Auditorium, starting at 9:00.

Leader's Agenda 2026 | Transforming Work: AI, Leadership and the Future of Human Work

On the morning of 13 January, will be held at ISEG “Leader's Agenda 2026 - Transforming Work: AI, Leadership and the Future of Work”, an initiative of the Strategic Leadership Board from ISEG Economic Alumni. The event brings together decision-makers, academics and business leaders to debate the major challenges and opportunities that Artificial Intelligence poses for the future of work.

The session will take place in ISEG's CGD Auditorium, will be held in Portuguese and will feature the participation of the Minister of Work, Solidarity and Social Security, Maria do Rosário Ramalho, as keynote speaker.
