ABOUT THE PARO ROBOT

Robotherapy uses robots to replace animals and is a new application of robots in the field of patient care and well-being. Robot therapy began with the "PARO" seal robot in 1993.

PARO was marketed in Japan in 2005, and in Europe and the USA in 2009.
To date, around 4,000 PAROs have been marketed in more than 30 countries for use in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Recent clinical trials have shown that robot therapy has a similar effect on patients compared to animal therapy. There is a lot of evidence of the therapeutic effect of PARO on patients with dementia, particularly the elderly, and the differences are proven by observing the state of the patients before and after interacting with the robot.

PARO can reduce the use of psychotropic medication and is a non-pharmacological approach. It also reduces the time spent on nursing care, as well as the cost of medical and social services.
