ISEG students reach 3rd place in World Competition

For the second year in a row, ISEG reached third place in 2019 Society of Actuaries Student Research Case Study Challengepromoted by the Society of Actuaries (SOA), one of the most important professional associations in the sector worldwide.
This was the only Portuguese team to reach the competition's podium, beating internationally prestigious universities such as Boston University, Columbia University, among others.

Over eight weeks, the team of students from the Master in Actuarial Science at ISEG analyzed a real Case Study, in order to design a car insurance for autonomous vehicles. The team showed creativity and all its actuarial skills, earning it the third place in the prestigious competition, promoted by SOA, which is dedicated to promoting education and research for the actuarial profession, in direct partnership with Universities around the world.

" It is with joy and pride that we register this international recognition, for the second consecutive year, the excellence shown by students of the Master in Actuarial Science. In addition to the team that won the third place, there was another team that reached the semi-finals, which is remarkable, considering the set of competing universities", states Maria de Lourdes Centeno, coordinator of the Master's program.

" It is a pride (even for our country) to see ISEG place a team in the World Top 3 of this important international case competition in the area of Insurance and Risk. And this award will be repeated in 2019, as it happened in 2018! This year, additionally, we had one more team reach the semi-finals. Congratulations are in order to our students and the teachers who so well accompany, in a unique and personalized way, the ISEG students. ISEG's internationalization strategy is bearing fruit - as we can see - betting on a very solid quantitative training, but focused on the business reality and the great challenges of the world around us", says Clara Raposo, dean of the ISEG.

ISEG's Master in Actuarial Science is ranked 15th among the 50 best Master's Degrees in Insurance, worldwide, according to EDUNIVERSAL.
