ISEG student receives Professor Jacinto Nunes Award

The The Professor Jacinto Nunes Awardawarded by the Bank of Portugal (BdP), distinguishes the best Economics undergraduate students in Portugal every year. The latest edition, for the 2021/2022 academic year, rewarded our student Miguel Teixeira Rodrigues Inverneiro, who obtained an average of 17.64 (18 points).

The award ceremony took place on January 10, at the headquarters of the Bank of Portugal, in Lisbon.

"ISEG is like a second home.

Only effectively in contact with other students from different backgrounds did I really understand how complete and unique my undergraduate experience and training was. It is an incredible feeling to know that I am part of several generations of young economists trained in what we can call the oldest and one of the best economics schools in the country. I celebrate the awarding of the Professor Jacinto Nunes prize by the Bank of Portugal to the best economics students with great pride, but I share this victory with my family, my friends, colleagues, teachers and the entire ISEG community that in one way or another has been part of my path.

A special thanks goes to the teachers who contributed to this journey and who in addition to their daily challenge still found themselves teaching during a pandemic. It was undoubtedly a journey with ups and downs, but focused on the process and the learning, so it will be an experience that I will treasure forever.

This award is a very important milestone because it allows for the recognition of the efforts of young economists who, like me, will not only shape the future but are the future, and the future awaits some challenges. Lately the lessons that have been learned are that new ways of organizing society are needed in order to face these challenges that are arising under the current system, namely the growing aging of the population, climate change, and the marked inequality that is being observed.

All answers can only be given by the citizens of tomorrow, hence the eminent need to invest in their training and the importance of recognizing their successes.
