ISEG joins ErasmusU.com - social network for international students

Social network for international students
Register: draw your own borders

ErasmusU.com is a free international social network aimed at students who want to go on international mobility, incoming and outgoing students. The platform already has 17,000 registered users and aims to reach 30,000 by the end of April 2011.

The initial platform was developed in 2009 by four young Spaniards with backgrounds in computer engineering and programming, who were joined by a young Portuguese at the end of 2010 to add marketing and management skills. The team has already won a number of awards, such as the "Bancaja para Jovenes Enpreendedores 2008" prize - offered by the Spanish bank Bancaja - and a grant from the Galicia regional government in 2010, supported by the European Union.

The promotion of this social network for international students is mainly done through buzz on the internet and partnerships with some international student associations such as ESN (Erasmus Student Network) and universities, with the aim of helping prepare for this new stage in the student's life.

The benefits of joining this international social network:

- Get information about almost any city and university in the world through experiences (more than 900) and photos (more than 27,000), shared by other students (i.e. http://www.erasmusu.com/en/erasmus-paris).
- Contact other students and get to know, before you travel, people who have been to, are going to or are in the same destination city.
- Search for or offer rooms through a dedicated page organized by city ( http://www.erasmusu.com/en/rooms-for-rent-erasmus).
- Search for people using a system in which you can filter searches by criteria such as nationality, university, current city, destination city, age, gender, etc. ( http://www.erasmusu.com/en/erasmus-people).
- Participate in the forums of each city and university to exchange ideas and ask questions with other students ( http://www.erasmusu.com/en/erasmus-forum).
- Consult the rankings of the best cities and universities (based on climate, festivals, architecture, prices, gastronomy, level of teaching, transport, etc.), based on the votes of students who have already been there.
- Protect your privacy using the different settings available.
- From December 23rd it will also be possible to keep a blog about experiences abroad ( http://www.erasmusu.com/es/blog-erasmus/).

Hobbies:

1st Erasmus Experience Contest
The idea is for users to share the story they have experienced in a city or university on the ErasmusU.com website.
The best experience wins a trip with ESN (Erasmus Student Network) to Ibiza in May 2011 with 2,500 other Erasmus students (the trip departs from Madrid).
All the information is on this page.

2º Create your Erasmus Blog
The challenge is for users to maintain - or transfer to our network if they already have - a blog on the subject of Erasmus.
On June 1st, the 3 best blogs will be chosen and will be entitled to Ryanair vouchers (of 100, 80 and 60 euros respectively).
