ISEGPode: Psychosociology at ISEG drives pedagogical innovation with podcasts and new room for the academic community

ISEG's Psychosociology Curricular Unit, coordinated by Professor Sofia Bento and Professor Daniela Craveiro, recently stood out by winning funding under the University of Lisbon's pedagogical innovation projects, through the ISEGPode initiative, securing support of 2,000 euros to strengthen new teaching-learning approaches.

With the aim of providing students with solid foundations for understanding psychological, behavioural and organizational processes, this course takes on a central role in academic training by exploring topics such as personality, perception, learning, attitudes, satisfaction and motivation, always from a perspective applied to human and organizational dynamics. The course thus responds to the contemporary challenges facing organizations, reconciling performance, productivity and ethical responsibility.

The ISEGPode project enabled the creation of a new podcast room, equipped to support not only this curricular unit, but the entire ISEG academic community, promoting practical skills in communication, storytelling and content production. This infrastructure represents a strategic investment in pedagogical innovation, encouraging more participatory and creative methodologies.

As part of the project, the students were challenged to develop themed podcast episodes, organized into six groups, addressing different fundamental areas of Psychosociology:

Throughout the semester, the students took part in technical workshops, fieldwork sessions, an introduction to podcasting and editing processes, culminating in the production of original educational content that combines theory and organizational reality.

This initiative reinforces ISEG's commitment to innovative, practical education that is aligned with the demands of the market and society, while valuing technical skills, critical thinking and an understanding of human relations in the organizational context. ISEGPode is thus a clear example of ISEG's ability to transform higher education through innovation and the creation of value for its entire community.

ISEG has new MBA leadership focused on decision-making and impact

The ISEG Lisbon School of Economics & Management announces a new management structure for its MBA program, reinforcing its positioning as a program geared towards decision-making in complex and ever-changing contexts.

From 1 May 2026, the coordination of the ISEG MBA will be carried out by a new team, made up of Professor José Veríssimo, who takes on the role of Executive Director, and Professor Sofia Lourenco, responsible for the scientific direction of the programme.

An Associate Professor in the area of Management, and currently Vice-Dean of ISEG, José Veríssimo has developed his activity in the areas of marketing, consumer behaviour and strategy, combining academic research with a strong connection to business contexts. His collaboration in the last 24 MBA editions, as a lecturer and active participant in the programme's activity, gives him an in-depth knowledge of its challenges and a vision geared towards its continuous evolution.

As for Sofia Lourenco, an Associate Professor with tenure at ISEG, has a well-established academic and scientific track record, with a focus on the areas of decision-making and management. Her experience as a lecturer and researcher ensures the scientific rigour of the programme, as well as its permanent updating in the face of the demands of a changing global context.

This evolution comes after a cycle of four editions led by Joana Santos Silva, whose contribution was decisive for the development of the programme, particularly in terms of its organisation and the redesign of the training offer. Over the last 18 months, she has also taken on the role of CEO of ISEG Executive Education, significantly expanding its scope of action.

The new management structure reflects a clear commitment to a more focused, agile and dedicated leadership model, capable of keeping up with the growing demands of the programme and enhancing a truly transformative experience for its participants.

More than transmitting knowledge, the ISEG MBA, which is currently open for applications for its 43rd edition, takes on the mission of developing the ability to think critically, decide with confidence and act with impact, essential skills in an environment where the difference is not in access to information, but in how you decide. “In a world where information is abundant, the difference lies in the ability to decide. That's what we want to develop at the ISEG MBA" says José Veríssimo, Executive Director of ISEG MBA and Vice-Dean of ISEG.

With this change, ISEG reinforces its ambition to offer a distinctive MBA experience, aligned with market demands and prepared to train leaders capable of responding to and anticipating the challenges of the future.

Title

Job Search and Mobility Over the Life-Cycle: Implications for the Child Penalty

Abstract

Using Dutch administrative and survey data, we document that women's job mobility drops around childbirth. Women make fewer job-to-job transitions starting one year before birth and continuing for many years after. They are also less likely to engage in on-the-job search and tend to work in jobs with low amenities, such as irregular hours. We develop a life-cycle model of labour supply, job search and job switching in which pregnant women and mothers face higher search costs. Jobs are characterised as bundles of wages and amenities, where amenities reduce work disutility. We use the model to quantify a novel channel through which the child penalty operates: because (expecting) mothers search less, they remain in jobs with lower wages and fewer amenities, leading to lower employment and earnings. We find that search costs related to childbirth reduce lifetime earnings by 1.8%, accounting for 18.45% of the child penalty. We validate the model using a recent reform that eliminated tenure requirements for parental leave. Following the reform, mothers increased job switching before birth but decreased employment in the year of birth.

Final of Competition 3 MT ULisboa | 21 May

The Pavilhão de Portugal will host, on 21 May 2026, at 17:00, the end of the 4th edition of the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) ULisboa.

The 12 finalists of the 3MT ULisboa this year are going to take to the stage with a challenge that seems simple... but isn't. They have three minutes and a single slide to explain their research so clearly that anyone - even someone completely outside the field - can understand why their work matters.

The premise is simple: communicating science. But to communicate with clarity, confidence and, of course, a lot of good energy.

Free admission.

This initiative is part of the Experience the Future which marks one year of Pavilhão de Portugal as a hub connecting Universidade de Lisboa and society, bringing together science, culture and innovation through interactive experiences, talks and shows, reflecting ULisboa's commitment to a sustainable and participatory future.
