On May 5, the first episode of the podcast "Descomplicar as Finanças Sustentáveis" (Uncomplicating Sustainable Finance), the result of a partnership between ISEG, Jornal Económico and the UK Embassy in Lisbon, will be launched. Through conversations with British and Portuguese speakers with recognized work in the field of sustainable finance, the aim of this podcast is to highlight the role of the financial sector in combating climate change.

The ISEG Executive Education launches today a podcast of three episodes aimed at B2B - Business to Business sales professionals and with the participation of relevant names in this area. ISEG leads a consortium for the preparation of a study on the contextualization and operationalization of small plants for the valorization of forest biomass in Portugal, funded by the ICNF's Permanent Forest Fund. The project aims to meet multiple objectives, among which stands out the preservation of forest areas by improving their economic sustainability and fire prevention. It began on September 1, 2021 and will last for 1 year.
This projectfunded by the Permanent Forest Fund, which is part of the ICNF - Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, seeks to respond to Decree-Law No. 120/2019 of August 22, which establishes the objective of conducting a study focused on the economic and technological components associated with the operationalization of activities leading to the achievement of the objectives mentioned above, through the installation and operation of new forest biomass valorization plants. The project has multiple objectives, among which stand out the preservation of forest areas by improving their economic sustainability and fire prevention.
The realization of this project is the result of a consortium between ISEG (managing entity) and LUKE, a Finnish entity specialized in the theme of biomass valorization plants.

TITLE: Financial support for the elaboration of a study on the contextualization and operationalization of small biomass valorization plants in Portugal
The main objectives of the study of contextualization and operationalization of small biomass valorization plants (BVC) in Portugal are the following:
a) Identify and select the most appropriate business model(s)for CVB operation taking into account the obligation of articulation between the parties and the local/regional contextualization;
b) Identify and select the most appropriate governance model(s) to ensure the articulation and collaboration of all agents in the value chain, considering the interests of stakeholders and local and regional operational conditions;
c) Propose the incentive modalities and the necessary financing for the operationalization of the installation of the CVB.
To this end, the actions to be developed include:
Within the scope of the Sustainability Strategy for 2030, ISEG launches the Sustainable Finance Knowledge Center with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the institution and the British Embassy, reinforcing the importance of the issue of sustainable finance and ESG for the Portuguese economy.
Nowadays, financing a greener, more circular, resilient and inclusive economy is essential for us to improve competitiveness and be able to generate real added value. With the launch scheduled for today, September 22nd, the ISEG Sustainable Knowledge Finance Center it comes precisely to promote an applied thought that makes all this happen.
The event, which will take place in person at 5:00 pm in ISEG's CGD Auditorium, will present the 2030 sustainability strategy, and will also include the presence of Ambassador Chris Sainty, who will sign a memorandum of understanding between the British Embassy and ISEG. The meeting, which will be broadcast online, will also include the participation of ISEG professors, researchers and students, as well as officials from AON Portugal and Euronext.
According to Clara Raposo, Dean of ISEG: “By 2030, ISEG will be fully aligned with the teaching of green, regenerative and inclusive economy, where the themes of decarbonization, preservation of biodiversity, equality and diversity will be integrated into the school's activities. We want to have a positive impact on society by educating and promoting a culture of cooperation and solidarity that contributes to the implementation of sustainable and humanistic management practices, enhancing sustainable development in Europe and also in developing economies”.
“Exploring the immense potential of Sustainable Finance to deliver a transition towards carbon-neutral societies, while supporting long-term prosperity, will be essential for all countries with lasting climate ambitions”, says British Ambassador Chris Sainty. “The launch of the ISEG Sustainable Finance Knowledge Center is an excellent example of a major initiative to address the challenges that climate change poses and support the long-term goals of COP26.”
According to Sofia Santos, associate professor and coordinator of the Sustainable Finance Knowledge Centre, “the launch of the Sustainable Finance Knowledge Center demonstrates ISEG's recognition of the importance of financing practices to achieve a sustainable economy, capable of producing goods and services with less environmental impact and, at the same time, capable of generating employment, well-being in society and happiness". The same teacher also states that: “ESG issues (environmental, social and governance) are on the agenda today. It is necessary to build thinking and tools capable of helping SMEs, large companies, and even the financial sector, to implement a good ESG risk analysis and to identify the opportunities that arise from it.”
In addition to the launch of ISEG Sustainable Knowledge Finance Center and its 2030 Sustainability Strategy, today's event also features the presentation of the study “Sustainable Finance market in the UK and Portugal, a contemporary snapshot” and a round table with the participation of Clara Raposo, Dean of ISEG; Lucas Chaud, student of the Master in Management at ISEG; Pedro Penalva, CEO of AON Portugal, Spain, Israel and Africa; Susana Fonseca, researcher in Environmental Sociology; ISEG professors Vitor Barros and João Carvalho das Neves; and Sandra Machado, director of communication for Euronext.

EDUCATIONAL CONTENT
The curriculum of this course is based on research and case studies in this area, aiming to develop in the participants solid skills, critical and innovative spirit, knowledge and experience regarding the development of strategic plans for resilience and sustainable tourism.
Regarding the learning methodologies, special emphasis will be given to the viewing of thematic videos, development of group exercises to apply key concepts, as well as analysis of case studies that promote an informal but critical discussion among participants. Some of the materials used in class (e.g. videos, papers, etc.) may be taught in English.
TRAINER
Ana Rita Sampaio holds a PhD in Sustainable Tourism from the International Centre for Responsible Tourism, Leeds Metropolitan University (now Leeds Beckett University), in the United Kingdom, and a degree in Environmental Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She also completed a post-doctoral research at the Center for Geographical Studies of IGOT - University of Lisbon, under the European Project SECOA - Solutions for Environmental Contrasts in Coastal Areas: global change, human mobility and sustainable urban development.

ISEG brings postgraduate degree in Sustainability Management to Greenfest Within the scope of the Post-Graduation in Sustainability Management, ISEG will participate in Greenfest, the largest event dedicated to sustainability in the country and which annually celebrates the best that is done in Portugal in terms of sustainability in the environmental, social and economic aspects. Under the theme "How to develop a Sustainable Marketing Plan? Case study"The ISEG session will take place on October 9 at 17h00 and will be attended by Cristina Ferreira, Daniel Souza and Sofia Marques, students of the 1st edition of the Post-Graduation in Sustainability Management.
