Times, they are a-changin’, indeed.
We know today how fragile are our economies, their businesses and other organizations, when faced with truly disruptive events. This became evident with the current pandemic crisis that shook and continues to shake the world and we are also aware of the climate emergency, which is of no lesser concern.
Educating responsible economists and managers in the 21st C requires in-depth thought and maturity, first of all in the understanding of our role – as professionals and good citizens – in such an interconnected world witch has limited resources.
With this in mind, the knowledge and education we provide at ISEG Lisbon aims to develop managers and economists with an analytical open mind, and with a unique blend of solid quantitative and technological skills, mixed with a humanist approach in which the social context of all managerial decisions is taken into account. Our commitment is even stronger as we belong to the highly reputed and well ranked Universidade de Lisboa, which is public and the largest university in the country.
Our vision and the daily practice of our engaged community of faculty, students and staff are fully aligned with the United Nations’ SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and with the Principles for Responsible Management Education. ISEG’s world-class degrees have been recently recognised in the Financial Times rankings and by the international accreditation agencies AACSB and AMBA, and, in Portugal, our MAEG Bachelor’s degree is the Number 1 choice in Economics and Management and Top 10 of all undergraduate degrees in any field.
As we celebrate our 110th anniversary, our Alumni of all generations make us proud, as ISEG is best known for its multi- and inter-disciplinary approach to learning and putting into practice. Pluralism is a key word in our ecosystem – it is the right “-ism” in our search for solutions.
We believe that the next generation of economists and managers must be quantitatively sound, technologically agile, and concerned with the impact of their decisions on others. We also wish this new generation managers and economists to be genuinely interesting people, with their own special likings and talents which make each one unique and creative. The world of economics and management needs one’s intellect as much as one’s heart, and also one’s dreams and imagination – the big little things that make life worth living.
We are a school that is open to the city and to the world, beautifully located in downtown Lisbon, right next to the Parliament and the beautiful river Tagus, from where the first globalisation started centuries ago. Situated right at the centre of the western world, we are ready to face the future and make it happen.
It is my pleasure to share this vision, just as we share knowledge, time and the ambition of a prosperous future with whoever joins us.
Welcome to ISEG. Open Minds. Grab the Future.”
