Book launch | Promethean Essays on Management, by Professor Almiro de Oliveira

On April 2, the book Promising Trials in Management, authoredby Professor Almiro de Oliveirawill be launched at ISEG. This book combines scientific knowledge and practical experience, offering a solid guide on management, artificial intelligence and the information economy, essential for preparing managers for the challenges of the future.

The session will be opened and conducted by Prof. Mario Romão. Professor João DuqueDean of ISEG and author of the preface, will present the book. The event will end with a speech by the author of the book.

The event twill take place from 6pm and 7pm in Auditorium 5 (New Quelhas Building).

Free admission, subject to room capacity.

About the work:

"Not all managers are required to have the so-called ‘flair,’ the stroke of genius, or the inspired decision. However, they must all be familiar with the rules and procedures that have been tested and proven to provide a safe and sustainable path for organizations.
That is why Management is studied—to understand the rules that govern the organization of employees and other resources, to learn from both successes and mistakes, sometimes more from failures than from triumphs. And when management knowledge is conveyed by someone who combines scientific expertise with practical experience, we have the recipe for success.
This book embodies precisely that. Its author, Professor Almiro de Oliveira, brings together wisdom and extensive experience, linking the business world and its needs with the knowledge provided by academia to address those needs.
Reading Professor Almiro de Oliveira’s lessons challenges us to reflect on the consequences of management in today’s and future environments, where generative Artificial Intelligence presents us with new challenges.
For all these reasons, this book deserves our attention. It comes from the hands of someone with deep expertise, capable of guiding us through the jungle of information overload, particularly regarding Management and its techniques. Reading it enhances our ability to navigate our lives as managers with greater confidence.".

João Duque, President of ISEG

"Rascunho" Concert | João Reigado and guests

February will come to an end with another concert at ISEG. On the 28th, at 21h00, the CGD Auditorium will host João Reigado, who will bring with him a 'Rascunho' (Draft) in the form of his first album of original songs, released in December 2024.

Reigado, however, will not only be accompanied by his recently released album, but will also share the Auditorium stage with a band and four special guests, most of whom made 'Rascunho' come out of the paper, into the world.

And suddenly... the drawer was empty. Words found music again and everything began to make sense. After some hesitation, singer-songwriter João Reigado achieved one of the biggest goals he had in mind: to publish an album of original songs. 'Rascunho' was the name chosen for a work with 15 songs, born from the symbiosis between words, piano and the artist's voice.

The voice and piano were joined by Diogo Melo de Carvalho's drums, Vasco Sousa's basses and double basses and Ruben Portinha's guitar, who was also the producer and one of the vocal guests on this record, on the song "Não há bela sem senão", where he also played guitar.

Another guest was João Afonso (in a duet on "Certo e errado"), whose talent, career and distinctive voice enriched the work even more. The same can be said of José Manuel David, one of Portugal's finest multi-instrumentalists, who recorded harmonica on the song "Chuva vai" and horns on the track "Comboios".

'Rascunho' takes to the stage at ISEG, CGD Auditorium, in band format, with many of the members who took part in the making of the album, promising a show that is welcoming, impactful and, above all, full of musicality.

João Reigado - Piano and Voice

João Reigado is a teacher of music education and artistic training in basic education, regularly collaborating in the implementation of music awareness projects in pre-school and primary education and in the field of multi-disability. He has been composing on the piano and guitar since he was very young and, during his higher education, he was a member of various musical groups ('Staccato Ensemble', 'Almost a Big Band', 'Tuna Académica de Lisboa', 'Nem 8 Nem 80', etc.).

Reigado has dedicated himself to composing and arranging music in the contexts of learning and promoting communication in children with multiple disabilities. His compositions, influenced by pop, blues and jazz, reflect a personal inspiration, based on feelings, relationships and a critical observation of society, marked by an ironic tone.

He is now releasing his first solo album - 'Rascunho' - with 15 songs, born from the symbiosis of words, piano and voice.

His originals, with lyrics always in Portuguese, navigate between various sounds, especially pop, rock and funk, here and there with hints of soul, blues, jazz, bossa nova and a few other styles. He defines himself as an attentive singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from his musical influences and the world around him.

Vasco Sousa was born in Lisbon. A guitar connoisseur, he learned by himself to play electric bass at the age of 14. He was a student at the Hot Club of Portugal in 1983, and at the Academia de Amadores de Música in 1988, where he studied double bass with Prof. Fernando Flores.

It was at the age of 15 that Inês Trevo wrote her first composition, "Turn Around", using the guitar as its rhythmic basis (as in her later compositions).

Between Portuguese (mother tongue) and English, in a style that is essentially Pop Rock, her songs deal with experiences, feelings and reflections that are not only theirs, but end up conveying messages that are difficult to leave indifferent all those who listen to them.

In 2018, she released a first EP online consisting of five original songs ('Turn Around', 'O Que Eu Sei', "Não Me Perdi', 'Where is My Escape' and 'Keep The Flame'), followed by the singles 'Som Mudo' (2021) and 'Verdade' (2022).

In 2023, she released her first album called 'Solta', with a total of 14 songs and an extra track, making a total of fifteen original songs that represent the path she has traveled over these 15 years of songwriting.

Inês Trevo has been on stages that she considers important because they were milestones in her musical career, some of which were the Carlos Paredes Auditorium, the Grande Arraial De Benfica, FIARTIL (Estoril Craft Fair), the URCA Auditorium and the Acácio Barreiros Auditorium at the Olga Cadaval Cultural Center.

She currently has some new songs that she intends to record and is also very focused on learning new instruments and musical possibilities, such as the piano.

Presentation of the book "Aprender", by Professor Nuno Crato

Tomorrow, February 5th, from 18:30, the Cultural Room at El Corte Inglés in Lisbon will be the stage for the presentation of the latest essay by Professor Nuno Crato, Aprender, published by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation.

Learning, why and for what? For decades, we have been discussing what we expect from our education system and whether it is possible to improve it. This essay returns to the subject, but from the scientific developments that can help education, in the field of cognitive sciences, statistical studies, the economics of education and international comparative analyses.

These pages defend an ambitious curriculum, focused on knowledge and not on vague skills. The need for valid, frequent and rigorous assessment is explained, and support is advocated for students who show the greatest difficulties. Teachers and learning are praised. Because the love of knowledge still lives among us, it is possible to move towards teaching informed by experience, data and science.

The presentation is part of the program of the "Ciclo Praça da Fundação" conference "Teaching: is it important to know, structure and evaluate?", which debate will be moderated by Filipa Melo and will feature, in addition to the former ISEG professor, Isabel Soares, Principal of "Colégio Moderno",as well as José Miguel Júdice, lawyer and television commentator.

Nuno Crato's latest work is now available in the most popular bookstores.

Registration for the book's presentation conference is now closed.
